Whether you’re planning an appearance at an industry trade show or exhibiting at a massive event such as South by Southwest (SXSW), PR can drive more business and take your brand recognition to a whole new level.
Follow these three tips for public relations success at your next event:
1) Create Booth Buzz
More visitors at your booth equals two things: brand awareness and warm leads, which translates into more customers and a public relations success. Come up with a zany yet relevant attraction – think Lyft’s piggyback rides during SXSW last year – and you’ll attract more visitors. Creating a newsworthy event will earn media coverage as well as increased social chatter and organic traffic for your brand. Another way to generate buzz is to give away memorable swag. It makes attendees want to come by, collect and remember you when they get home.
2) Come Bearing Good News
Trade shows are great places to share and discuss important news, so plan your company’s big announcements around your show schedule. The press is already on site – which makes it easier to arrange press briefings and approach reporters. Coordinate an announcement to be timed up with your next exhibit and schedule meetings with reporters in advance. You may want to provide embargoed snippets in advance.
3) Newsjack the Event With Social Media
You can be a part of the news by sending your social media team to cover important sessions and panels. If you can take photos and shoot video interviews – even better. When you publish your updates and content, leverage Twitter and other social networks using the event hashtag. You’ll drive event traffic, reshares, and onsite traffic and interviews.
